About the client & their business goals

Globaldev and a software giant, Tyler Technologies, got in touch back in February 2020. The company’s Senior Software Developer and Analyst gave us a short introduction to Tyler Technologies and in-house branches that required assistance with software development. Tyler Technologies offers accurate and efficient computer-delivered appraisals and assessments of real estate for states, countries, and municipalities.

When we first talked, the Tyler Technologies team had already been using their own suite of property assessment instruments. The board’s main concern was that the suite wasn’t unified but was scattered across web and desktop platforms, meaning that data processing took longer than it should. Their main goal was to upgrade the current assessment process by developing an internal assessment tool from scratch. In the end, this would help Tyler Technologies boost the team’s KPIs and deliver results faster.

Solution

Before we started any development activity, it was critical to investigate how the current suite operated and then document all requirements. The Globaldev engineering team went through an extended engagement stage that included interviewing business users to study the current workflow and receive commentary from the Tyler Technologies team. Once the requirements were put on paper, we approached the development process.

Together with Tyler Technologies, we divided a large-scale project into smaller, more achievable parts. For the MVP version, we developed a web app with a user-friendly interface and a set of modules essential for core management activities: those of users, engagements, tasks, and properties. Now it takes less than two minutes to assess and review an entire property. It is expected to be able to review close to 480 parcels per day instead of 150 to 200.

Implemented features

User types
There are four types of users: admin, supervisor, reviewer, and super user. A user profile includes short personal information and the user’s role in the assessment process. Platform users have different permission or access levels granted for specific resources (such as files and tables) for real estate assessment.
Customizable data layout
After importing files with the object’s data, an admin can browse the list of data tables and set up and edit table relationships (the data layout) for creating a project’s unique database. There is no unified data layout. Each project’s layout is unique and customizable.
Advanced access management
The platform admin can add new users and manage them, specifying their roles and access levels. If a user has no role assigned, they can sign in but cannot access any data or start assessment.
Engagement management
Engagement is a project created by an admin — a space where the review process is done. Before an engagement is assigned to a reviewer, an admin creates relationships and sets up the data layout. An admin can launch an engagement or delete it, add tasks to it, and customize API settings.
Property management
A parcel is a dataset containing property-related information. During property assessment, a parcel moves through a workflow, which is a set of review phases. Every workflow is unique.
Reports
An admin can generate different reports, filtering them by user type, engagements, workflow steps, tasks and statuses, as well as property types.
