About the project

Recruiting technical talent shouldn’t feel like a bottleneck, but for many it often does. As well as it did for us in Globaldev Group. Every promising candidate meant hours of senior developer time spent on screenings: building question sets, running interviews, and writing feedback before serious hiring conversations even began.

To escape this cycle, Globaldev built GenIA, an AI avatar for early recruitment screenings that automates first-round technical interviews. Since April 2025, our in-house recruiters have been using GenIA internally to pre-screen candidates around the clock, freeing engineers from repetitive calls and giving recruiters structured, comparable evaluations within minutes.

What began as an internal fix has grown into a scalable product, a concrete example of how AI tools for recruiting can transform hiring from a drain on resources into a fast, focused process.

The industry challenge GenIA solves

Early-stage technical screenings often follow a familiar pattern. Once a recruiter identifies a promising candidate, senior developers must step in. They spend time drafting technical questions, conducting a live interview, and then compiling feedback for recruiters and hiring managers. Each candidate can consume 2–3 hours of scarce senior engineering time, which at $70 per hour translates to roughly $140–$210 each. With five candidates typically screened per vacancy, this vetting alone can cost $700–$1,050.

Recruiters are caught in the middle. They may lack the technical expertise to evaluate candidates upfront, which means weak fits often slip through. Senior engineers then spend hours in interviews that go nowhere.

At the same time, hiring managers are frustrated by the slow pace: by the time strong candidates finally make it through the queue, they are often off the market. This “recruitment drag” creates a feedback loop:

  • Recruiters feel pressure to send more candidates faster
  • Engineers become the gatekeepers, not builders
  • Hiring managers lose trust in the process
  • Candidates are disappointed in how long the interviewing process takes
Solution & how GenIA works

As an AI software development company, we knew how to turn this hiring bottleneck into a product opportunity.

The team built GenIA, a recruitment AI avatar that runs automated first-round interviews with the efficiency and structure of a senior technical screener, but without tying up any human time.

When recruiters shortlist candidates, GenIA takes over the early screening. Each candidate receives a secure link to an interview room, where an AI avatar conducts a structured interview, asking technical and practical questions. The system transcribes their answers, evaluates response depth, clarity, and relevance, and assigns a weighted score for each competency.

Recruiters can then review a clean summary with ranked candidates, full transcripts, video recordings, and even anti-cheat signals like tab-switch counts without having to schedule a single call.

This AI avatar interviewing approach makes the process fully asynchronous: candidates complete interviews within a five-day window, and recruiters get results within minutes once the interview is completed.

GenIA impact on recruitment

Since April 2025, Globaldev’s recruitment team has been using GenIA to screen candidates across multiple roles. In just under six months, it has:

  • Cut early screening time from 10 to 15 senior developer hours in half
  • Reduced recruiter workload by removing scheduling and manual note-taking
  • Delivered consistent, comparable candidate evaluations that make shortlisting faster and more objective

This freed engineers to focus on advanced interviews and real project work, while giving recruiters a clearer signal of which candidates are actually worth that time.

Candidate-facing key functionality of GenIA

Secure token-based login
Candidates receive time-limited email links with embedded tokens, ensuring only invited users can access interviews.
Device configuration layer
Pre-checks for microphone, speakers, and camera before starting, supports Chrome, Safari, and mobile devices.
Guided interview space
Dual-video layout with a live-streamed AI avatar and candidate feed, side panel showing job details, transcript/chat panel supporting inline code formatting.
Session tutorial & recovery
The avatar-led tutorial explains controls before the interview, and can be replayed on demand during the session.
Inactivity and expiration control
Detects idle sessions and ends them; unused invite links automatically expire after a set period.
Candidate feedback flow
After the interview, candidates can rate their experience and submit open-text feedback. Low scores trigger a recruiter review.

Recruiter-facing key functionality of GenIA

Role-based authentication
Credential login with recruiter profiles storing contact info, time zone, company data, and permissions.
Recruiter dashboard
Displays job posting stats, candidate progress (invited, completed, recommended, and others), interview outcomes, experience metrics, and filters by date, role, or client.
ATS integration layer
Currently integrates with Workable, planned support for Zoho Recruit, SmartRecruiters, Greenhouse, and Teamtailor. Enables automated candidate import, invite sending, and result syncing.
Interview session review suite
Stores full artifacts: candidate video recording, transcript, AI-generated scores, rankings, and tab-switch counts for anti-cheat.
Question and task management
Allows adding custom technical question pools per job and creating practical tasks, including live coding assignments.
Data entity management
CRUD interfaces for candidates, job postings, skills, and customer companies, including archiving and filtering.
Notifications & support
Real-time status updates, integrated support ticketing with screenshot uploads, and a searchable help center.
CV conversion utility
Automatically maps external CVs into GenIA’s template for consistent profile formatting.

AI for recruiting core capabilities

LLM-powered avatar interviewing
Uses GPT completions for streaming dialogue, orchestrated via a Django REST backend and rendered through a lightweight FBX-based 3D avatar.
Speech pipeline
Azure STT transcribes candidate responses, GPT generates replies, Amazon Polly TTS services produce speech and visemes for real-time lip-sync, all of which is then streamed to the browser.
Finite-State Machine (FSM) conversation engine
Breaks interviews into different situation-dependent phases that change dynamically, injecting phase-specific prompts to reduce context size and prevent drift.
Evaluation & scoring engine
GenIA groups responses by question block, extracts metrics (depth, clarity, relevance, examples), and applies recruiter-defined weights to compute 0–100 scores.
Anti-cheat signals
Tab-switch counter and full-session video recording help detect scripted reading or disengagement without invasive surveillance.
Intelligent question builder
Generates tailored interview questions automatically, drawing on best-practice frameworks, role requirements, job descriptions, and target skill sets to assess candidate suitability.

AI for recruiting future development roadmap

GenIA’s next milestones focus on scaling Workable integration to automatically pull candidates, send invites, and post back results; and expanded ATS integrations (Zoho Recruit, SmartRecruiters, Greenhouse, Teamtailor).

What’s more, soon we’ll implement Stripe billing to support SaaS subscriptions. Other than that, we continuously work on improvements to GenIA’s evaluation logic, avatar UX, and prompt frameworks.

With these upgrades, GenIA is evolving into a full-fledged AI-powered recruiting platform, ready to help other companies accelerate their hiring pipelines as well.
