About the project

Medlog is a healthcare communication platform designed to enable fast, secure, and direct communication between clinical teams. Developed with the support of Globaldev, the platform integrates messaging with medical records and patient-related information to help healthcare professionals collaborate more effectively.

By improving access to real-time patient data, Medlog allows nurses, doctors, and other clinical caregivers to make better-informed decisions while increasing operational efficiency. The healthcare communication app equips care teams with modern tools to deliver higher-quality patient care in significantly less time.

Client’s request

Medlog approached Globaldev to help design and develop a secure communication platform tailored to the needs of healthcare professionals. The client faced several critical challenges:

  • Fast and compliant communication: Build a platform that enables instant, direct communication while meeting strict healthcare security and compliance requirements.
  • Automation and medical record integration: Integrate the clinical messaging system with existing medical record platforms to ensure clinicians have access to accurate, real-time patient data.
  • Unified information sharing: Create a single, secure environment where nurses, physicians, and care teams can share patient information quickly and reliably.
  • Modernization of clinical workflows: Replace outdated technologies that limited collaboration and slowed down care coordination.
Solution

Globaldev partnered with Medlog to develop a HIPAA-compliant healthcare messaging app specifically for nurses and physicians. The solution focuses on standardizing physician–nurse communication through patient-centered messaging while maintaining high standards of data security and regulatory compliance.

The key components of the platform is the secure text messaging for healthcare and ability to store structured message summaries directly in the medical record, ensuring continuity of care and accurate documentation. Development is ongoing, with Globaldev continuing to support Medlog in achieving its long-term objective: transforming clinical communication and improving coordination across healthcare teams.

Implemented features

Authorization
The app has a secure authorization system with two-factor authentication to ensure that only authorized users are able to access the account. It offers two options for authorization: an SMS sent to the phone number and biometric authentication using Touch ID or Face ID. This ensures that only legitimate users can access the application, providing extra security and peace of mind. Additionally, biometric authentication provides an easy way to authorize sensitive operations within the app.
Messages
The messaging feature of Medlog allows nurses and providers to quickly send text messages, documents, images, files of any size, and SmartTexts to each other. Nurses can create SmartTexts—a specific form that provides detailed information about a patient's condition for the provider—which can be customized or saved for later use. The app also allows users to log the amount of time spent communicating with nurses and providing medical services.
Provider notes
The Provider Notes feature gives healthcare providers a clear overview of patient visits, allowing them to view completed visits, open records as PDFs, search and filter visits, and add notes directly from iOS and Android devices. Providers can attach text and images to document patient progress, with all notes securely stored in MedLog’s cloud for easy access anytime.
Visits (only for iPad)
The Visits feature enables healthcare providers to create detailed patient visit records directly on iPad. Clinicians can capture key information such as diagnoses, treatment plans, vital signs, medications, and lab results, upload related documents, and easily search or filter visits by date, duration, or keywords.
Contacts
MedLog allows users to quickly and easily access a comprehensive list of all providers and nurses associated with their medical facility. Users can search through the contacts to find specific individuals or filter the results based on customizable criteria. Additionally, users have the ability to call any contact via their mobile phone number or text them directly within the app. The intuitive interface makes it easy for users to connect with essential healthcare personnel in just a few clicks.
Profiles
The Profile feature gives users the ability to customize their experience. Users can edit their personal information, such as name and contact information, change the facility they are associated with, set up security functionality such as PINs, Face ID, or Touch ID, and customize notifications and sounds. Additionally, users can easily access MedLog's Support team if they have any questions or issues. Finally, users are able to read through the legal policies in order to stay up-to-date on any changes in usage terms.
Admin panel
The Admin Panel provides centralized control over users, facilities, visits, and patient data. Admins can manage roles and permissions, configure facility settings, monitor visit history, access detailed reports, and use advanced search to identify patients requiring follow-up. Customizable dashboards offer real-time visibility into key performance indicators for different user roles.
Web constructor (for admin panel)
The MedLog app features a Web Constructor, which allows admins to manage templates for the MedLog app quickly and efficiently; they can customize existing templates or create new ones from scratch.
